This excursion gives you an opportunity to make a pilgrimage tour to the famous functional orthodox monastery – Ostrog, founded by the Metropolitan Bishop of Hercegovina Basil in the middle of the 17th century. After his death he was buried and canonized here. First, you can visit the upper monastery built on the rock and consisted of two temples: the Church of the Presentation (the 18th century) and the Church of the Holy Cross (1665). In the Church of the Presentation St. Basil of Ostrog spent 15 years in prayers. There is a reliquary with the hallows St. Basil of Ostrog in the temple. This monastery is the third Orthodox holy shrine in size in the world. It is worth mentioning that not only Orthodox believers come to this place but Catholics and Muslims as well.

Then you can visit the lower monastery which centers around the Church of the Holy Trinity and includes monk’s cells. There are the hallows of St. New Martyr Stanko. After visiting the Monastery, you can have a lunch in the restaurant of the national cuisine.

On the way back travel to the capital of Montenegro, Podgorica, and visit the Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ. Due to its monumentalism as well as architectural and artistic design, this cathedral represents the unique, truly new and sacral building in the whole Orthodox world. It is the largest temple in Montenegro. On October, 7 in 2013 all Orthodox churches representatives, as well as representatives from other Christian communities, took part in the dedication of this temple. Divine Liturgy was ministered by Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew together with the Patriarch of Moscow and all Rus’ Kirill. Cathedral in Podgorica has become known in the whole world for its beauty and monumentality, it is the most popular place for the Orthodox believers’ pilgrimage, as well as the tourist attraction for people from other countries who consider this temple as a cultural monument and a must-visit in Podgorica and Montenegro.
